About the FHHS

The FHHS was formed in May 1971 by the amalgamation of the Fulham History Society (founded 1934) and the Hammersmith Local History Group (founded 1955). Its purpose is:

  • To foster and encourage the study of local history and archaeology.
  • To compile and publish historical material relating to the area of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
  • To encourage interest in local history and archaeology by meetings, visits and other appropriate means.

The Society’s Activities

The Society publishes works on local history– a pamphlet, map , book, picture etc., often the result of original research. A newsletter is sent to all members three times a year.

Regular Events

There is usually a talk or a visit once a month. Visits are made to places of historic interest both within and outside the borough at varying times.

Joining the Society

No qualifications are needed to join the Society and membership is open to all who are in sympathy with its aims and wish to enjoy the talks and visits. If you have specialist local knowledge and would like to write for publication or help with work on projects, please contact the secretary.  Click Join Us and print the page to apply for membership.
